Plot the 5 parent points and the parent equation for the Absolute Value Function changing the color settings to RED
- Plot the 5 parent points and the parent equation for the Quadratic (Squaring)
Function changing the color settings to BLUE
- Plot the 5 parent points and the parent equation for the Cubic (Cubing) Function changing the
color settings to PURPLE
HINT: The parent points are the 5 points where plugged in-2, -1,0, 1, 2 for x values. You will have
some points that overlap, but make sure you include all of the parent points for all three parent
functions.
3) On a new (or clean) screen, complete the following 3 steps (this will be the second screen shot
you take):
- Write the equation of an absolute value function that has a vertical stretch of 2 units, a shift to
the left 2 units, and a shift down 1 unit. Make this graph GREEN
- Write the equation of a quadratic (squaring) function that is reflected over the x axis, has a
vertical stretch of 3 units, a shift to the right 5 unites, and a shift up 1 unit. Make this
graph ORANGE
- Write the equation of a cubic (cubing) function that is reflected over the x axis, has a vertical
shrink of 3/10 unit, a shift to the left 3 units, and a shift up 2 units. Make this graph RED.
4) On a new (or clean) screen, complete the following 2 steps (this will be the third screen shot you
take):
- Write the equation of a quadratic (squaring) function that has a vertical shrink by a factor of 2
(HINT: think about what this actually is.. is it really 2 or is it 1/2), a shift to the the left 4 units, and a
shift down 8 units. Make this graph BLUE.
- Write the equation of an absolute value function that is reflected over the x axis, has a vertical
stretch of 5 units, and a shift down 3 units. Make this graph BLACK
