Baroque history/ events

Baroque is a particular style in architecture, music and the arts that was popular between the late 17th and mid-18th centuries, especially in Catholic countries.

It is characterized in architecture and drawing using flexible or dotted lines, floral and gilded ornamentation (which gave rise to the Rococo style) and spatial effects. Among the most important baroque artists could be mentioned Bernini, Borromini, Caravaggio and Rubens.

In music compositions by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Monteverdi are associated with baroque music. This was the period that saw the development of the opera.

In literature, Baroque is a less definite and defined term. Picaresque novels of the period could be considered as an example. It was an important influence on the literature of the period as well, especially in France, Italy, southern Germany and Spain.
