Why is the world cruel

Greedy people are fueled by money and riches, especially when they figure out how much power and control it can give them. Instead of trying to help others, they help themselves. Social hierarchy causes people to look down on those who are different from them, such as gender and race. The entire world is based off power, which results in anger and war. Each generation is more f'd up than the other one, and personally I don't see a solution besides total extinction, which might happen because of ourselves,  :)
