Suppose that two researchers, Damin and Andrew, work together to study a simple random sample of subjects from a population, and they find that the sample proportion is equal to 0.8. They
proceed to construct confidence intervals. When they construct a 95% confidence interval based
on this sample proportion, Damin comes up with (73, .87) while Andrew gets (.75, 89).
a. Suppose Damin interprets his confidence interval as follows: "I found that has a 95% probability
of falling between 73 and .87" Explain what's wrong with this reasoning and also reword Damin's
interpretation of his confidence interval so that it is in statistically correct language.
b. One of the confidence intervals-either Damin's or Andrew's-has to be incorrect. Indicate which
interval must be wrong, and explain your choice.
