Write a complete two-column proof for following information.

given: ab = 3y - 1, bc = 7y, ac = 29
prove: ab = 8

im so confused and also im confused on how to label it

AB = 3y -1, BC = 7y, AC = 29

 

AC is a  straight line so:

AB + BC = AC

3y – 1 + 7y = 29

10y = 29 + 1

10 y = 30

y = 30/10

y = 3

 

plug in y = 3 into the equation:

AB = 3y– 1

AB = 3 (3) – 1

AB = 9 -1

AB = 8
