Mars has be a source of new excitement and discovery for scientists in recent years. Scientists have successfully landing rovers on Mars to investigate it’s surface and environment, and they are hoping to land humans on Mars in the 2030s. Many researchers have find that investigating Mars reveals a lot of information about Earth because the planets is similar in many ways. Mars has volcanoes and craters, just like Earth. The total amount of land on each planet is also very similar. Additionally, the planets are tilted at similar angles, leading them to have varied weather patterns. Both planets have experience climate change. There are also many big differences between Mars and Earth. Mars has a weaker force of gravity then Earth, so if someone dropped something, it would fall to the ground at a slower pace. Mars has a massive volcano called the Olympus Mons, which reach very high into the air. This volcano couldn’t exist on Earth because the stronger force of gravity would cause it to fall. Mars is also much colder then Earth. The temperature can drop to -80 degrees Fahrenheit! A final difference is that Mars and Earth have very different magnetic fields. Although scientists have learned quite a bit about Mars in recent years, there is still a lot left to learn. Scientists will continue to study Mars, hoping to reveal even more similarities and differences between Earth and Mars.
