What is an equation of the line that passes through the points (5,2) and (-5, -6)?

y=4/5x+2

Hi! first things first, you want to find the slope. you do that by taking both y values, in this case they are 2 and -6.

then, you need to identify the two 2 x values, 5 and -5.

next, follow this formula: Y2-Y1/X2-X1. y value#2 is -6, and y value#1 is 2. subtract those numbers, to end up with -8. this will go on top of the fraction.  x value#2 is -5, x value#1 is 5. subtract (=-10) and put it on the bottom of the fraction.

now you have your slope! we now have y= -8/-10, or simplified is 4/5.

Now we find the y intercept. to do that, you want to pick a set of points. i'm going to be using (5, 2) because it will be the easiest.

lastly, set up the equation to find the y int: y- y1= m (x- x1)

y- 2= 4/5 (x- 5) = 2
