For a quadratic equation like y = 3x^2 +12x -12 --------------- (1)

Where a = 3 and b = 12.

-b/2a gives the x-coordinate of the vertex. Hence putting values;

-12 / 2(3) = -12 / 6 = -2

Now putting x = -2 in equation (1);

y = 3(-2)^2 + 12(-2) -12

y = -24
