year?
The doubling time of a population of fruit
flies is 12 hours. By what factor does the
population increase in 36 hours? In 1
week?
The time to double is 12 hours. So after 36
hours the population increases by a factor
of 2.36/12 = 8 times as many fruit flies.
After 1 week (168 hours) = 216812 = 16,384
times as many fruit flies.

The doubling time of a bank account
balance is 16 years. By what factor does it
grow in 32 years? In 96 years?
4. The number of cells in a tumor doubles every
1.5 months. If the tumor begins as a single cell,
how many cells will there be after 20 months?
