Are you picky about the toilet paper you buy? James is! To investigate the absorbency power of his favorite
brand of toilet paper, he went to the store and randomly selected (and purchased) 18 single rolls. He then
poured 1/4 cup of water onto a hard surface and counted how many individual squares of toilet paper it took
to completely absorb the water. Here are the results from his 18 rolls:

24
25 29 21
27 28 21
24 27 25 24
25 26 22 23
(a) Is there convincing evidence at the a= 0.05 significance level that this brand of toilet paper will
require less than 26 squares to absorb 1/4 cup of water?
(b) Referring to your conclusion, what type of error may have been made? Describe the error in the
context of this study.
