(a) First of all, we reduce the given ratio 36:100 by dividing both entries in the ratio by their greatest common factor which is 4. This gives us, 9:25. For every 1 flying insect, there should be 9/25 butterfly (This somehow does not make any sense because we cannot associate a fraction to number of insects). For every 50 flying insects, there are 18 butterflies and for every 100 flying insects, there are 36 butterflies. 

(b) Multiply 450 by the ratio (9/25). The answer would be 162.
