Well elapsed time is the time that has passed by.  So your end time is 6:00. If 9 3/4 hours passed by until 6:00, then you will need to subtract the time. So something plus 9 3/4 hours = 6:00.  Your answer will be 8:15. Just subtract 6:00 by nine hours to get 9:00. So then if 3/4 is 45 minutes, subtract 9:00 by 45 minutes, and you will get 8:15 am.
