In a test environment, a particular dehumidifier is designed to remove over 55 quarts of water in a 24-hour period. To look for support of this performance, a research team plans to record the amount of water removed for a sample of 12 days; the dehumidifier will be reset after each use. (a) What are the null and alternative hypotheses appropriate for the research team? Define any parameter(s) used.
(b) How high must the average amount of water removed be in this sample in order to conclude that the dehumidifier is performing correctly, assuming a significance level of .05? Past research has shown that the standard deviation for such dehumidifiers is 5 quarts. You may also assume that observations are approximately normally distributed.
(c) After the study is over, it turns out that the average is 57 quarts removed for the 12 days with standard deviation 6.1. Calculate the test statistic for this test, and state the conclusion at the .05 level.

Formulate the indicated conclusion in nontechnical terms. be sure to address the original claim. the foundation chair for a hospital claims that the mean number of filled overnight beds is over 523, and she is therefore justified starting a funding campaign to add a wing to the hospital. assuming that a hypothesis test has been conducted and that the conclusion is failure to reject the null hypothesis, state the conclusion in nontechnical terms.

Write the equation of a line that is perpendicular to the given line and that passes through the given point. –3x – 6y = 17; (6, 3) y = x – 9 y = 2x – 9 y = –2x – 9 y = x + 0 3. is the relationship shown by the data linear? if so, model the data with an equation. x y 1 5 5 10 9 15 13 20 the relationship is linear; y – 5 = (x – 1). the relationship is not linear. the relationship is linear; y – 5 = (x – 1). the relationship is linear; y – 1 = (x – 5). write an equation in point-slope form for the line through the given point with the given slope. (–10, –1); m = y + 10 = (x + 1) y – 1 = (x – 10) y – 1 = (x + 10) y + 1 = (x + 10) 5. write an equation for each translation of . 6.5 units up y + 6.5 = | x | y = | 6.5 x | y = | x | + 6.5 y = | x | – 6.5 6. write an equation for each translation of . 5.5 units right y = | x | + 5.5 y = | x – 5.5 | y = | x | – 5.5 y = | x + 5.5 | 7. which equation translates y = | x | by 8 units to the left? y = | x | – 8 y = | x | + 8 y = | x – 8| y = | x + 8|
