5a. Total baseboard 31 5/6ft - 2 1/4 ft = 29 7/12 feet needed.

5b. Take the total and divide it by 8ft  = 29 7/12 divided by 8= 3.7  You are not buying a fraction of a board so you would need 4 boards.
