How can you tell of your multiplying or dividing on a word problem?

You can tell by looking at the question being asked. You can also tell by looking at the key words in the problem. When multiplying, the word problem may mention words like a,area,multiplied by,of,per,product of,rate,times,triple,twice. When dividing, the key words that may be used are divided ,half,how many each,out of,percent,quarter,quotient of,percent. Hope this helps

     You can do that by looking for the key words. multiplying is product, times, twice, each, factor, altogether, in all, multiply, and total. If it is division then the keywords are quotient, half, dividend, divided, shared, equally, same, grouped, or separated. Hope this answers your question.
