4(n-4)=-12 need solution for this how to show work for this

You need to distribute the 4, so you'll end up with: 4n-16=-12 Then, add 16 to both sides. 4n-16+16=-12+16 4n=4 Divide by 4 on both sides. 4/4n=4/4 n=1

There are two ways to do this, the way I would do it is by first dividing each side by 4. if you do this you get n-4=-3. from here you add 4 to each side which gives you n=1

the other way you can do it is by distributing the 4 first. If you do this, you get   4n-16=-12. From here you add 12 to each side, which gives you 4n=4. Finally you divide each side by 4 to give you n=1. 

Both give you the same answer, the first way just does it in one less step.
