Ayoung equestrian loved to ride her horse all day long, dreaming of the day she would ride in the kentucky derby. one day in early april, she left home at 10: 00 a. m. and rode her stallion at a nice 10 mph away from her house. at noon a call came in from the derby saying she was in. her father immediately jumped on his scooter to try to track her down and tell her the news. riding at a breezy 15 mph, after how many hours on the scooter will her father catch up to her?

Answer= 4 hours

So, if the equestrian was traveling for two hours at 10mph before her father jumped on his scooter to follow her, then she was already 20 miles away when he jumped on the scooter

10 miles traveled in one hour*2= 20 miles traveled in 2 hours

The expression for her travels is '20+10x' where x=the number of hours traveled after 12:00p.m.

Her dad traveled at 15 miles per hour, his travels can be represented by the expression '15x' where x is equal to the number of hours traveled after 12p.m. 

Now we have to solve for x...

20+10x=15x
subtract 10x from both sides
20=5x
divide both sides by 5
4=x

It will take 4 hours for her father to meet up with her
