Cross multiply..

(x+1)(4x+8) = (x)[x+2+4x+12]

4x²+12x+8 = x(5x+14)

4x²+12x+8 = 5x²+14x

5x²- 4x²+14x-12x-8=0

x²+2x-8=0

x²+4x-2x-8=0

x(x+4)-2(x+4)=0

(x-2)(x+4)=0

:- x=2 or - 4
