Order of operations, so you do the multiplication first.

3 * 3 = 9

4 * 2 = 8

After you do the multiplication, you then subtract the two totals.

9 - 8

= 1

The answer is 1. 
With the rules of PEMDAS you would multiply before you subtract 
 
So 3*3=9
And 4*2=8

Then you can subtract the two products

9-8=1

Just make sure that when you do problems like this you use PEMDAS
