PCT in the nephron is adapted to absorb most of the substances from the filtrate.They contain large amount of mitochondria which generate energy for reabsorption of glucose, ions like sodium and potassium,amino acids by active transport.

PCT contains microvilli which increase the surface area for absorption and absorbs all the glucose and amino acids from filtrate. Other substances which PCT reabsorbs are hormones, vitamins, water, urea, bicarbonate ions and chloride ions.
