Scenario 3 Your Role:
You are a certified medical assistant (CMA) employed by Dr. Anna Lee,
Primary Care Physician (PCP) at Fulwood Medical Center Urgent Care
Center
Your Patient:
Ms. Ashley Massey, a 16-year-old female, presents in the office not
wanting to state her reason for the visit.
Scenario:
Upon rooming the patient you learn that her last menstrual period was 8
weeks ago. She has breast tenderness and mild nausea. She requests
complete privacy. While the doctor is in the room speaking with the
patient you are asked to prepare for a urine sample pregnancy test and
return to instruct the patient and administer the test. While you are
preparing you receive a phone call from a hysterical woman stating that
she is the patient's mother and she would like to speak to her daughter.
After performing the test you see a positive result. The patient asks you
what the result of the test is.
Explain the communication techniques you used with the patient to help
her open up about why she was in the office to see the doctor.
Explain how you respond to the patient when she asks to see the results
of the test.
Explain how you respond to the woman on the phone.
