5 Questions: 1. What is the primary function of red blood cells (RBCs)/erythrocytes?

2. What is the purpose of erythrocytes having biconcave shape & losing their nuclei early in red blood cell (RBC) maturation process?

3. What is the composition of red blood cells (RBCs/erythrocytes)? (Hint: if you remove all the water from an RBC, what’s left besides a phospholipid bilayer cell/plasma membrane?)

4. Describe in detail how the “stuff” (= part of your answer to #3, above) that fills RBCs functions to do this important job. You must describe the “stuff” at the molecular level & describe how just 1 of these complexes of “stuff” works to carry out an RBC’s primary function...how many of these vital to life molecules can each molecular complex carry?

5. How long do RBCs live? What happens when they can no longer perform their important function? Name the process by which new RBCs are produced...explain where this happens...& tell me what other important cells (& important cell fragments) are produced by same process. What are primary functions of these other cells?
