1-Nursing considerations for administration of rt-PA: i. Administration of rt-PA must be done within 3 hours after onset of acute ischemic stroke (after this 3 hour window re-PA isn’t beneficial and increases the risk for hemorrhage) ii. Before administering rt-PA, inserting two peripheral IV lines must be done, one IV is for the rt-PA and the other for fluids iii. Withhold anticoagulants for 24 hours after rt-PA admin to prevent bleeding complications

2-List and describe potential contraindications for rt-PA administration:i.Symptomatic hemorrhage is the most common complication after rt-PA administration with the highest risk being within first 36 hours and if it is not given within 3hrs after stroke or if patient doesn’t maintain a BP of less than 185/110 ii. If intracerebral hemorrhage is suspected, rt-PA admin must be stopped and an emergency noncontrast CT scan of the head is completed with administration of fresh frozen plasma or platelets.

3-Systemic bleeding– assess IV sites and gums for external bleeding, monitor urine, stool, and gastric secretions for bloo.c.What may result if administration of rt-PA is too fast or too slow
