1. Several years back, we saw a concerted effort by many states to legalize the use of marijuana for medical and then increasingly for recreational use. It was an idea whose
time had come. Currently 33 states have legalized marijuana in some form (10 for
recreational use and 23 for medical use). Now in 2018, facing new concerns about
immigrants seeking refuge from the violence, especially drug-related violence in their
homelands, some are asking if it is time to legalize more drugs as a way to undermine
the illicit drug market. What are your thoughts? Would the legalization of drugs be an
effective remedy for the violence associated with drug trafficking?
