Galileo observes mars from the telescope of his own design and discovered a large, dark spot on Mars, called  Syrtis Major. In 1610 He discovered Jupiter and its 4 moons. He later saw the gaseous ring around this giant planet. Along with jupiter he also discovered Neptune in 1610.
