Aquantity of an ideal diatomic gas is kept in a cylinder with a piston which allows the gas to be expanded or compressed. initially, the gas has a volume v1 = 0.25 litres and is kept at a temperature th = 350°c and pressure p1 = 6.2.10° pa. the gas then undergoes an isothermal expansion to a volume v2 = 4v1. compute the heat absorbed and the work done by the gas in this process. [10 marks] (d) the gas then expands adiabatically until it reaches a temperature ti = 25°c. compute the pressure p3 and volume v3 of the gas at the end of this process, and the work done by the gas in the process. (12 marks] (e) the gas is then compressed isothermally to a volume v4 = v3/4, before undergoing an adiabatic compression to return to its original state. compute the total work done by the gas in the entire cycle, and hence calculate the efficiency of the cycle. comment on your result.
