light from the candle travels in straight lines. but the holes in the cardboards are not aligned in a straight line. the cardboard in the middle blocks the light coming through the hole of cardboard near to the candle. so the light will not pass the second cardboard. therefore eye will not receive any of the light from the candle. in order for to see the candle light, light should arrive to the eye. so the person looking through the hole will not see any light
