A spaceship of proper length ? = 100 m travels in the positive x direction at a speed of 0.700 c0 relative to Earth. An identical spaceship travels in the negative x direction along a parallel course at the same speed relative to Earth. At t = 0, an observer on Earth measures a distance d = 58,000 km separating the two ships.
Part A
At what instant does this observer see the leading edges of the two ships pass each other?

Suppose that an electromagnetic wave which is linearly polarized along the x−axis is propagating in vacuum along the z−axis. the wave is incident on a conductor which is placed at z > 0 region of the space. the conductor has conductivity σ, magnetic permeability µ and electric permittivity ε. (a) find the characteristic time for the free charge density which dissipates at the conductor. (b) write the maxwell equations and derive the wave equation for a plane wave propagating in a conductor. (c) find the attenuation distance at which the incident amplitude reduces to e ^−1 of its initial value. (d) find the electric and magnetic fields inside the conductor. 8 (e) find the power loss per area of the incident electromagnetic wave at the surface of conductor.

Beryl states that insulation with the smallest possible thermal conductivity is best to keep a house warm in winter, but worst for keeping a house cool in summer. sapphire insists the reverse is true: low thermal conductivity is good in the summer, but bad in the winter. which one, if either is correct? a. beryl, because low thermal conductivity results in low heat transfer. b. beryl, because low thermal conductivity results in high heat transfer. d. sapphire, because low thermal conductivity results in high heat transfer. e. neither, because low heat transfer is desirable both in summer and in winter.
