You are working for a construction company and are in charge of ordering supplies for some new brick houses that are going to be built. The company you are considering for supplying the bicks sends you a sample. you want to decide if the brick has the appropriate volume. You observe that it is roughly in the shape of a rectangular prism so you take measurements of its length, width, and height.

Length: 31.30 +/- 0.2 cm
Width: 12.80 +/- 0.2 cm
Height: 8.90 +/- 0.2 cm

you realize that it would be a good idea to detrmine the volume using a second method as well. Then you could decide if the two results were consistent. If they were they you know you could be confident with you determination of the volume of the brick. As a second method, you take a large plastic graduated cylinder and fill it up partially with water. You measure the water level be 272050 +/- 1mL. You then submerge the brick in the water. You measure the water level now to be 611050 +/- 1mL.

What is the volume of the brick, as the determined from the data from each of the two methods?

If the temperature were raised very high, classically what would we expect the heat capacity per object to be for this one-dimensional system? give a numerical value. chigh t = __ j/k/object (one reason for the discrepancy is that the high-temperature limit assumes that the number of oscillators is large (n > > 1), which is not the case in this tiny system.)
