Visual angle. If an object stays the same size, then the visual angle it forms must change as we move closer or farther from it. Calculate the visual angle (in degrees) for each of the following stimuli. (You should only need your calculator for a; try b, c, and d without it):
a. A person whose height is 2 m, standing 100 m away (m)
b. The same person standing 200 m away
c. A child whose height is 1 m, viewed from 100 m.
d. The same child viewed from 50 m meters
Calculate the distance or size (in meters) of each of the following objects:
a. What is the height of a person standing 100 m away, whose visual angle is 1 deg?
b. What is the viewing distance if a coin that is 2 cm in diameter and forms a visual angle of 2 deg?
