In a Tesla coil, a long solenoid with length l and cross-sectional area A is closely wound with N 1 turns of wire. A coil with N 2 turns surrounds it at its center. You measure the mutual inductance. Then your friend gives you a new solenoid made out of twice as much wire, so that it has twice as many turns and is twice as long. How much larger is the mutual inductance M with the new solenoid instead of the old one

One day, after pulling down your window shade, you notice that sunlight is passing through a pinhole in the shade and making a small patch of light on the far wall. you see that the patch of light seems to be a circular diffraction pattern. it appears that the central maximum is about 1 cm across and you estimate that the distance from the window shade to the wall is about 3 m. what is (a) the average wavelength of sunlight? (b) the diameter of the pinhole?

(2) (a) you have a simple circuit that consists of only a battery (δvbat=1.5v) and two resistors with resistance r1=10ω and r2=5ω, connected in series with each other. what is the current running through the battery? (b) you re-arrange your circuit so now r2 is attached in parallel to r1 rather than in series. what is the current running through the battery? (c) you add an additional resistor r3=7ω on the same branch as r2. what is the current running through the battery? (d) what is the power dissipated in r3?

An alpha particle with kinetic energy 12.5 mev makes a collision with lead nucleus, but it is not "aimed" at the center of the lead nucleus, and has an initial nonzero angular momentum (with respect to the stationary lead nucleus) of magnitude l = p0 b, where p0 is the magnitude of the initial momentum of the alpha particle and b=1.40×10−12 m. (assume that the lead nucleus remains stationary and that it may be treated as a point charge. the atomic number of lead is 82. the alpha particle is a helium nucleus, with atomic number 2.) what is the distance of closest approach?
