High levels of blood glucose over long periods of time damage blood vessels and major organs. In healthy people, these levels are controlled by the pancreas.

In response to high blood glucose, the pancreas releases the hormone insulin. This instructs target cells in the liver and muscles to absorb glucose so that the amount circulating in the blood drops.

Would you expect the amount of insulin in your blood to be greater just before or just after eating breakfast? Why?
