Volumetric expansion coefficients of simple materials are often well cataloged. However, the thermal expansion coefficient B of a human body is less well known. This could affect the human body's specific gravity and, therefore, measurements of its body‑fat ratio. Suppose that a human body of weight w0 on dry land is placed on a scale while completely immersed in formaldehyde of temperature T1. Once the temperature increases by ΔT, the scale reading drops by Δw. Derive an expression for B in terms of ΔT, w0, and Δw by assuming that the ratio of the density of formaldehyde pf and the initial density of the body pb is R=pf/pb. Assume also that pf does not change when heated.

Apositive rod is placed to the left of sphere a, and the spheres are separated. which best describes the spheres? sphere a is negative and sphere b is positive because protons from sphere a are attracted to the rod and move to sphere b. sphere a is negative and sphere b is positive because electrons from sphere b are attracted to the rod and move to sphere a. sphere a is positive and sphere b is negative because electrons from the rod move to sphere b and protons then move to sphere a. sphere a is positive and sphere b is negative because protons move from sphere b to the rod and also to sphere a.

Consider a 1000 w iron whose base plate is made of 0.5 cm thick aluminum alloy 2024-t6 (ρ = 2770 kg/m3 and cp = 875 j/kg°c). the base plate has a surface area of 0.03 m2. initially, the iron is in thermal equilibrium with the ambient air at 22°c. assuming 90% of the heat generated in the resistance wires is transferred to the plate, determine the minimum time needed for the plate temperature to reach 200°c.
