1. Consider a curving waterslide which you can consider as frictionless. Two children are initially at rest at the top of the slide. The larger child slides down the slide into the water. The smaller child falls into the water without going down the slide. Assume this motion is one-dimensional. A) Upon reaching the water, is the kinetic energy of the smaller child (i) greater, (ii) less than or (iii) the same as the larger child?
B) Same choices but now compare the speed of the smaller child.
C) During the time going from the top to the bottom how does the magnitude of the average acceleration of the smaller child compare to the larger one?
2. An ice-cube of mass m is released from rest along the horizontal diameter of a frictionless hemispherical bowl of radius R.
A) Calculate the gravitational potential energy of the ice-cube at the starting position relative to the bottom of the bowl.
B) Find the kinetic energy of the ice-cube at the bottom of the bowl.
C) Find its speed at the bottom of the bowl.
D) Find the kinetic and potential energy of the ice-cube when it has slid up the other side to a height of 2R/ 3.

The membrane surrounding a living cell consists of an inner and an outer wall that are separated by a small space. assume that the membrane acts like a parallel plate capacitor in which the effective charge density on the inner and outer walls has a magnitude of 7.0 Γ— 10-6 c/m2. (a) what is the magnitude of the electric field within the cell membrane? (b) find the magnitude of the electric force that would be exerted on a potassium ion (k+; charge = +e) placed inside the membrane.
