A sphere of mass M is attached to one end of a rigid stick of negligible mass. The other end of the stick is fixed in place so that the sphere can move in a circular path of radius R (a) The sphere is released from rest with the stick at an angle of 60 degrees from the vertical, as shown in Figure 2. Derive an expression for the speed of the sphere when it is at point B, the bottommost point of the circular path.

(b) An external force is exerted on the sphere to speed it up. After the force is removed, the sphere has enough speed to move in a complete circle, as shown in Figure 3. The angle θ is equal to zero when the sphere is at point B and is 180 degrees when the sphere is at point T, the topmost point of the circular path.

(c) When the sphere makes a complete revolution around its circular path, does it spend more time in the top half of the circle, more time in the bottom half of the circle, or the same amount of time in both halves of the circle? Briefly state your reasoning.

Acylinder with a movable piston contains 11.7 moles of a monatomic ideal gas at a pressure of 1.32×10^5 pa. the gas is initially at a temperature of 300 k. an electric heater adds 43200 j of energy into the gas while the piston moves in such a way that the pressure remains constant. cp=20.79 j k^−1 mol^−1 for a monatomic ideal gas, and that the number of gas molecules is equal to avogadro's number (6.022×10^23) times the number of moles of the gas. (a) what is the temperature of the gas after the energy is added? (b) what is the change in volume of the gas? (c) how much work is done by the gas during this process?

Arunner is jogging at a steady 3.6 km/hr. when the runner is 2.9 km from the finish line, a bird begins flying from the runner to the finish line at 14.4 km/hr (4 times as fast as the runner). when the bird reaches the finish line, it turns around and flies back to the runner. even though the bird is a dodo, we will assume that it occupies only one point in space, i.e., a zero-length bird. how far does the bird travel? (b) after this first encounter, the bird then turns around and flies from the runner back to the finish line, turns around again and flies back to the runner. the bird repeats the back and forth trips until the runner reaches the finish line. how far does the bird travel from the beginning? (i.e. include the distance traveled to the first encounter)
