Atwood’s machine consisted of two masses connected by a string that passes over a pulley, as shown below. The hanging mass m2 accelerates in the downwards direction. I also apply a small opposing upwards force F = 1⁄4 m2g on the bottom on the mass m2 but the mass m2 continues to accelerate in the downwards direction. (a) Find the Tension of the masses in terms of m1 and m2. (b) Calculate the numerical value of the Tension if m1 = 3.1 kg and m2 = 5.4 kg.

It's a snowy day and you're pulling a friend along a level road on a sled. you've both been taking physics, so she asks what you think the coefficient of friction between the sled and the snow is. you've been walking at a steady 1.5m/s, and the rope pulls up on the sled at a 32 ∘ angle. you estimate that the mass of the sled, with your friend on it, is 65 kg and that you're pulling with a force of 80 n .
