Practice problem A fluid is confined in a cylinder by a spring loaded,
frictionless piston so pressure in the fluid is a
linear function of volume (P= a +bV). The internal
energy of the fluid is given by the equation
U= 34 + 3.15 PV
if the fluid changes from an initial state of 170 kPa,
0.03 m3 to final state of 400kPa, 0.06m3, with no
work other than done on the piston, find the
direction and magnitude of work and heat transfer

Assume that a person skiing high in the mountains at an altitude of h = 15100 ft takes in the same volume of air with each breath as she does while walking at sea level. determine the ratio of the mass of oxygen inhaled for each breath at this high altitude compared to that at sea level. assume that the air composition (i.e. % of air that is oxygen) is the same at sea level as it is at 15100 ft.
