From Equation (2), calculate the kinetic energy of the ball and pendulum just after the collision. Compare this with the kinetic energy of the ball alone just before the collision by using the mass of the ball and v determined in this experiment. You can see that kinetic energy is not conserved in the collision. What happened to it?
