In going from the ground floor to the third floor of a building, a senior citizen used the main stairs to the second floor. In order to rest, he walked along the corridors of the second floor leading to a side stairs. He then used the side stairs to go to the third floor. Did the senior citizen do lesser work by doing this than continuously taking the stairs from the first to the third floor?
