A 35 kg sledder slides down from the top of a 5.9 m tall hill. The sledder starts with a speed of 2.63 m/s. a) What is the sledder's speed at the bottom of the hill?

b) At the bottom of the hill, the sledder collides with a 50 kg person running at 8.5 m/s directly away from the sledder. You can assume both the sledder and the person are moving due east. The sledder and the person collide and the person falls into the sled. What is the velocity of the sledder and the person after the collision?

An athlete swings a ball, connected to the end of a chain, in a horizontal circle. the athlete is able to rotate the ball at the rate of 8.13 rev/s when the length of the chain is 0.600 m. when he increases the length to 0.900 m, he is able to rotate the ball only 6.04 rev/s. (a) which rate of rotation gives the greater speed for the ball? 6.04 rev/s 8.13 rev/s (b) what is the centripetal acceleration of the ball at 8.13 rev/s? m/s2 (c) what is the centripetal acceleration at 6.04 rev/s? m/s2

Determine the time it takes for a satellite to orbit the earth in a circular "near-earth" orbit. the definition of "near-earth" orbit is one which is at a height above the surface of the earth which is small compared to the radius of the earth, so that you may take the acceleration due to gravity as essentially the same as that on the surface. does your result depend on the mass of the satellite?
