Figure 1, shows a crate that slides from point A with a velocity of v,, reaches point B with a velocity of vg and strikes the ground at point D with a velocity of vo. The mass of crate is mand the coefficient of kinetic friction between the crate and the inclined plane is pe. The angle between the inclined plane with the horizontal is 0. The distance between C&D (range, R) and time taken for the crate to strike the ground at point D are affected by factors such as the initial velocity at point A, mass of the crate, coefficient of kinetic friction angle of the incline slope, distance between point A & B and distance between point B & C.

You must: (i) draw the Free Body Diagram (FBD), (ii) state all assumptions relevant to your answers, (iii) separate your answers according to the tasks below.

Tasks 80 marks

1. Develop equations to show the relationship for the following:

range, R where the crate strikes the ground a point D and factors above b) time taken for crate to strike the ground at point D and factors above

c) magnitude of the crate's velocity at point D

d) angle at which velocity at point D makes with respect to x-axis

2. Apply the equations developed in (1) to solve the followings.

a) range, R where the crate strikes the ground a point D

b) time taken for the crate to strike the ground at point D.

c) magnitude of the crate's velocity at point D

d) angle at which velocity at point D makes with respect to x-axis

For your calculations, you can only assume any value that is represented by your matric number. For example, if your matric number is 72901, then you can assume an initial velocity of 12m/s, angle of 29", hsc of 72m, uh =0.29, etc. However, if your matric number does not have a zero, you may add 0 for pik. You CANNOT use a number that is not in present your matric number.

3. Show through calculations one factor that could increase the range, R where the

Some material consisting of a collection of microscopic objects is kept at a high temperature. a photon detector capable of detecting photon energies from infrared through ultraviolet observes photons emitted with energies of 0.3 ev, 0.5 ev, 0.8 ev, 2.0ev, 2.5ev, and 2.8ev. these are the only photon energies observed. (a) draw and label a possible energy-level diagram for one of the microscopic objects, which has four bound states. on the diagram, indicate the transitions corresponding to the emitted photons. explain briefly. (b) would a spring–mass model be a good model for these microscopic objects? why or why not? (c) the material is now cooled down to a very low temperature, and the photon detector stops detecting photon emissions. next, a beam of light with a continuous range of energies from infrared through ultraviolet shines on the material, and the photon detector observes the beam of light after it passes through the material. what photon energies in this beam of light are observed to be significantly reduced in intensity (“dark absorption lines”)? explain briefly.

Ahanging spring stretches by 35.0 cm when an object of mass 450 g is hung on it at rest. in this situation, we define its position as x = 0. the object is pulled down an additional 18.0 cm and released from rest to oscillate without friction. what is its position x at a moment 84.4 s later? express your answer in cm.
