Using the scientific definition of work, does moving an object a greater amount of distance always require a greater amount of work?

First, it depends on where the object is being pushed/pulled/lifted. 
Second, it depends how much the object weighs. (:

(If it is a 10lb block, being pushed 0.5 of a mile, it would be easy. Same goes for 1 mile.)
