Who was the first to study the heavens through a telescope?

I believe it was Galileo. He was the inventor of the telescope. One time he used it and he discovered 4 moons circling Jupiter , to study Saturn, to observe the phases of Venus, and to study sunspots on the Sun 

But four centuries ago the telescope was a revolutionary new invention, and when the great scientist Galileo Galilei first pointed a telescope skyward in late 1609, he was astounded by what he saw night after night.
