In simple words, the ocean currents are responsible for controlling the global climatic condition. The upper-ocean water is relatively warmer and denser in nature compared to the deeper and denser colder water. This colder deep water in some areas under certain conditions rises up to the surface replacing the warm current. This process is known as the upwelling of the ocean current. This results in carrying the essential mineral nutrients to the upper layer, which are very useful for the marine organism. It thus supplies a good amount of valuable minerals to these organisms, thereby enhancing the biological productivity in the ocean.
