In 2050, astronomers discover that the nearest black hole in our galaxy has a very orderly planetary system, with 3 planets in circular orbits. The planets A, B, and C have orbits with circumferences that are exactly 20, 40, and 60 times the circumference of the event horizon, respectively. Even more amazing, the planets are inhabited! On October 1, 2065, the planets all line up, and the residents of planet B decide to measure the precise distances of closest approach to their neighbors A and C. They expect these distances to be the same, but this is not what they find. Describe what they find instead, and explain the reason for the discrepancy.

As you are trying to move a heavy box of mass m, you realize that it is too heavy for you to lift by yourself. there is no one around to , so you attach an ideal pulley to the box and a massless rope to the ceiling, which you wrap around the pulley. you pull up on the rope to lift the box. use g for the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity and neglect friction forces. once you have pulled hard enough to start the box moving upward, what is the magnitude f of the upward force you must apply to the rope to start raising the box with constant velocity? express the magnitude of the force in terms of m, the mass of the box.

When a vertical beam of light passes through a transparent medium, the rate at which its intensity i decreases is proportional to i(t), where t represents the thickness of the medium (in feet). in clear seawater, the intensity 3 feet below the surface is 25% of the initial intensity i0 of the incident beam. what is the intensity of the beam "10" feet below the surface? (give your answer in terms of i0. round any constants or coefficients to five decimal places.)
