the same speed.  NOT velocity, because DIRECTION is a necessary
part of velocity, and they didn't necessarily both run in the same direction.

Velocity also involves displacement ... the distance and direction from the
start-point to the end-point.  If one or both athletes ran on a closed track,
then their velocity for the mile could be zero or very close to it, because
the start- and end-points can be the same spot or very close together.

Sadly, this is an example of sloppy questions, statements, answers, and
explanations that we have seen creep into technical subjects lately, where
it's important for the reasoning and the wording to both be precise.
