Electrical power is transmitted from power plants to consumers–sometimes over very long distances– through conducting power lines that are either underground or suspended overhead on poles. in lab and tutorial, we generally treat wires as having essentially 0 resistance. however, over a sufficiently long distance, the resistance of a conducting wire becomes significant. why is this?
