Environmental scientists use two models to describe populations growth over the passage of  time.

Logistic population growth occurs when the growth rate decreases as the population reaches carrying capacity. We already know that carrying capacity is the maximum number of individuals in a population that the environment can support. So whenever the population approaches carrying capacity, its growth rate will start to slow. Logistic growth model is represented by mathematical equations therefore it is more realistic model.
