The sun crosses the plane of Earth's equator when the center of
the sun coincides with either of the two points on the map of the
sky labeled "equinox".

One of the following two phenomena occurs at that time, depending
on the direction in which the sun crosses the plane.

1).  People all over the northern hemisphere shout and exclaim "It's Spring!",
whereas those in the southern hemisphere yell "It's autumn now.".  

2).  People all over the northern hemisphere yell "It's Autumn now.", whereas
those in the southern hemisphere shout and exclaim "It's Spring !".
