it is 8 percent of 50.  

4/50=%/100 You now have a proportion. Cross multiply.

50%=400 Replace % with any variable.

50x=400 Now divide both sides of the equation by 50.

x=8

(% is basically the percentage of 4 of 50 over 100. its much easier to solve percentage problems when the percentages are over 100. 100 represents a full percentage.  

example- 4 of 100 is 4% of 100)

the second is 11.34

If 81 is 100%, so we can write it down as 81=100%.

We know, that x is 14% of the output value, so we can write it down as x=14%.

Now we have two simple equations:

1) 81=100%

2) x=14%

where left sides of both of them have the same units, and both right sides have the same units, so we can do something like that:

81/x=100%/14%

Now we just have to solve the simple equation, and we will get the solution we are looking for.
